The Difficulty of Choosing Where to Publish
Oftentimes, students do not know where to publish. We recommend that if you work with a research company, you should sign up for their publishing track. The point of doing the research is to publish your work.
What we found by interviewing 25+ students on what is important to them regarding where they publish their work is that they always state two important factors. They want to be published somewhere prestigious because they are applying to very prestigious universities (this means somewhere selective or with a credible process) and also prefer to be published in a journal related to their future major.

The Reality of High School Research Journals
While many high school student journals may seem to offer peer-reviewed content, it’s important to recognize that not all of them adhere to rigorous peer-review processes or possess notable prestige. In our examination of various high school journals, we found that one widely recognized journal does not provide a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for its publications. Instead, it compiles essays into a PDF format without a formal publication using an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN). A search for their ISSN reveals that only the initial essays have been published, with nearly a decade of subsequent papers remaining unpublished. Additionally, this journal is managed by a single individual and, although it operates as a non-profit, it does not allocate any of its funds to charitable initiatives.
Challenges with Other Journals
Similarly, some journals lock their papers behind a paywall, making access difficult for many students and researchers. This trend is not uncommon, as many journals fail to provide essential features, such as a DOI, which is critical for proper citation and recognition in the academic community. Some journals may also charge high fees for publication, which can be more than double that of other journals offering the same level of credibility (DOI, peer-reviewed).
